Loose Steering/Constant Correction - 2015 Elantra
Hi all - wondering if anyone else is having the same issue I am with my model and year. I've seen a few other threads about later models, but I have yet to really find anything about the 2015. I bought it in August, off-lease at 36,500 miles, as a certified pre-owned vehicle.
About a week ago I was driving about 65mph and noticed that the steering felt slightly different in that I had to keep correcting in order to stay centered in the lane. I thought it was just a windy day until the next day when I experienced the same issue, and felt physically fatigued after 30 minutes of driving. I have to keep slightly correcting it left, then right, then left, then right to stay centered in the lane, without ever actually getting the car going or staying completely straight. Also, if I just try to ignore my instinct to correct the problem and see what the car does, it will veer slightly to the left and then find its way all the way to the right side of the lane completely on its own (with me just resting my hands on the steering wheel).
I've looked into the tire pressure, the alignment feels perfect when I let go of the wheel and brake, and the car is only 2 years old so I'd be shocked if it were something like the tie-rods or ball joints. I'm wondering if the tires need to be balanced, rotated, or even replaced (although they should have just been balanced/mounted/aligned when I bought the car in August as part of the CPO/pre-purchase inspection, but who knows)?
Has anyone else experienced this issue, specifically with this year? Even if it wasn't the 2015 model and you noticed it in your Elantra, could you give me some insights into your experience with the problem and/or resolution?
thank you in advance!!!
