Replacing the Clutch on 2004 Elantra GT
My Trusty 2004 Elantra has 82000 miles on it and now needs a new clutch. Question is:
1) buy a clutch kit online and bring it to a mechanic to install. This is the cheap and quick method. My preferred choice ;-)
2) take it to the dealer, have them keep the car all day, and at the end of the day I pay my $1000. My wife's preferred choice.
I would pick #1, but I was wondering: is it generally required to have to machine the fly-wheel?
The clutch slips when I give plenty of gas, but I've been driving carefully, so no smell and no sounds are noticed at this point. Is there a good chance that I could get-away-cheap by picking #1 without the clutch shattering ?
