Default Clink/clunk sound shifting into gear, 2007

Hi forum,

I bought a used 2007 Santa Fe about 2.5 months ago and it has developed a distinct clicking (clunk, pop) when I put it into gear. Most of the time, when the car has been sitting for a few hours and I go to shift out of park and into reverse or drive, there is an audible click sound that accompanies the shift into gear.

It doesn't appear at any other time when I am driving the car; only shifting between P, R, and D, and especially audible when the car has been unused for a few hours. Any tips or advice?

Apologies if this topic appeared elsewhere but the search didn't produce results (please direct me to the thread, if it exists).

Thanks *mahalo*,
Jonathan

My first thought is engine or trans mounts. That's what I'd check first.

I am hoping that it is something very simple like a drive shaft washer. But the car died on me today at Costco, so I have to address the clicking sound I get when I try to start it. Mahalo.
