clutch burnout
[align=left] Has anyone had problems with the clutch on the manual trans santa fe? Mine burned out at 43k - to the tune of 2000.00. While we have one driver who probably contributed to it, this seems a little severe so I am wondering of there are design deficiencies or if it's just us? Thanks.

RE: clutch burnout
No, I have to agree with the first post. I just paid over $2600 for a clutch and flywheel (flywheel was $1300 from dealer). I have a 2001 Santa Fe with only 60,000 miles on it and this happened. Flywheel should have been covered under the 10yr - but they said it was "driver's fault". I can guarantee I don't ride clutch, etc (I've had manual trans all my life - heck I had a Chevy Vega w/manual trans for over 10 years and never a clutch problem, although Vega's had numerous other problems/lol) Seems like whever you have a big issue with Hyundai, it's always driver's fault (seats falling apart, steering wheels falling apart). There's even a lawsuit going on forthe clutchproblem, but with the Tiburon's - not Santa Fe's YET. Do a search, you'll find numerous other posts with Santa Fe clutch problems and low mileage. Why does the flywheel cost so much too?

RE: clutch burnout
I have a 2005 Santa Fe that just turned over 54,000 Km (33,500 miles); I'm 2 1/2 years into a 4 year lease. I have an appointment to get my clutch replaced next week. I've been driving manual transmission cars since I was 18 (over 25 years), and have NEVER burned out a clutch. We think part of my problem has to do with a sticky gas pedal that forces you to use the clutch differently (which we think contributed to the clutch burnout). Since the dealer has been unable to figure out how to fix the sticky gas pedal (which is another discussion entirely), they have agreed to replace the clutch under warranty. Lean on your dealer a bit - this problem should not be happening with such low mileage!

RE: clutch burnout
Hi all, I just had my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe towed home due to clutch burn out. After reviewing the comments above, we all cannot be that bad of drivers to burn the clutch out at or around the same miles (43-49K miles)...Therefore, this should be a manufacture defect.I drove a VW Jetta for 13-years and never burnt out the clutch. Before that,I had a 1978 Honda Civic that the clutch wore out after 100K miles.
If the dealership does not honor the repair under warranty do anyone no of a reputable mechanic in the Oakland, CA area that specializes in Hyundai repairs?

RE: clutch burnout
Hi,
I've got a 2007 Hyundai Santa FĂ© with the Euro IV 155 horses engine. Until now the car always run good, but a month ago the clutch metal sometimes stuck in the middle of his normal course, I took it to the dealer that said that problably it was a clutch burnout. I asked them how is it possible to have teh clutch damaged if the car has only 70.000 Km and the other 4 cars that I had were all sold with more than 200.000Km and never changed a clutch.
The dealer says that the warranty is not responsible for that.

RE: clutch burnout
I have a UK 2007 Santa Fe 2.2 CRTD+ 7 seater which has been with the garage for the last 11 days. I
dont have the full story from them yet but it looks like clutch, flywheel and for some reason suspension
damage after 16,000 miles. Like you I have had manuals all my life, never had to replace a clutch with
45,000 miles a year between my wife, dont tow and drive on ordinary roads. No signs of clutch wear
before, just vehicle ground to a halt and smoke poured out of the front.
