I finally got my 00 sonata back from the local Maaco after 3 months of empty promises. Within a week the engine blew on me. I guess they got pissed and did something to the engine because I made them redo the crappy paint job.
Now that I have spent so much on the paint, I feel the need to replace the engine. I would like to take the oppurtunity to upgrade to a stronger engine.

I beleive the 00 Sonata has a 2.5 L, the next model had a 2.7, and the the next a 3.3. Does anyone know how the 2.7 or 3.3 would fit?

 

The 2.7 liter V6 is basically the same engine as the 2.5 liter V6. The 2.7 will bolt up to the tranny and fit in the bay of the 2000, but there may be control sensor issues that will likely need to be resolved. If you find a donor car with a 2.7, I would grab the ECM that goes with it to be on the safe side. The 3.3 liter V6 was deployed in 2006 with a totally redesigned Sonata platform. I have my doubts the 3.3 could be made to work.
