Default Tucson V6 fuel consumption

Hi there. I wonder if anyone can help me. I recently acquired a 2006 Tucson V6. The car has low kilos and has been well taken care of. It has a full service history too. The average urban fuel consumption is 23.4 L/100km. Extra urban comes down to about 16L/100km. Both of these, especially the urban consumption is WAY higher than the listed consumption for the type and model. (13.2 and 8.2) Also, I cannot open a window or the sunroof while driving as the exhaust gas that comes into the cabin is quite bad. I've recently had the car at a dealership for a service and they said the settings, consumption and leaking gas is completely normal. I simply cannot accept that. I live in a small town with no traffic or traffic lights. I drive carefully to avoid excessive fuel consumption but this is just unacceptable. Please can anyone advise on a course of action? (apart from reselling it which is my next move)

That's nice! However, it may also mean that you are driving a lot of very short distances. In that case the fuel consumption will be high because the engine rarely reaches operating temperature. Even a smaller car, let's say an Elantra with a 4 cylinder engine, will have higher fuel consumption than the manufacturer's numbers indicate. The weight and the 6 cylinder engine of the Tuscson certainly won't help.
