Yikes!

Hi John,
If you are serious about getting to use a scan tool effectively, one thing to keep in mind, the tool is only as good as the person operating it.
The best scan tool in the hands of a person that doesn't know what they are looking at, might as well be in the hands of person in a dark room looking for the door out.

There isn't much diagnosing a person can do on late year vehicles without a good scan tool. AND there are a lot of people that purchased one and never bothered to learn what functions the tool has and how to use them.
An example of what I am trying to say is , a doctor looks at a person's blood work and when he/she spots something out of range they will pursue , why.
The same applies to scan tool info, an experienced tech/person can look at data stream info and pick up pretty quick when something is out of range.
So far the doctor gets a higher rate but from the looks of things the techs are catching up some. lol

Thanks Hanky. I guess I'll have a shop diagnose the problem and determine what to do next.

I have a similar problem with my '02 Accent.
It started running funky and threw a ICV code, so I replaced the valve with an aftermarket unit. Code cleared but the car still ran funky.
And then the car threw the TPS code P0121. So, I bought a TPS and also sprang for the big-bucks OEM idle valve. Codes gone but the car still running funky.

I did the "battery unhooked for 10 minutes followed by a 30 miles of mixed driving" computer reset. That's how someone said to do it...? No change.

Also, I have the $23 Maxi Scan (Amazon) type of code reader and it works, but that's all it does is scan for codes. Not much help.
Around here they want $150 bucks just to hook the car to their computer.

If you don't care to learn the procedures and invest in a quality tool, $150 is cheap !!!!
We all want new vehicles with all the conveniences and there is a cost for all that and it doesn't end with the purchase price,, unfortunately.
Like the guy said, ,"When your vehicle breaks down, because it will", well, what else can we say.

Geez hanky, reference to a TV commercial and a rude insult?
Don't know what I said to set you off, or is it just that time of the month?

Car...and Dennis,
Sorry if you were offended by what I suggested. No offense intended.

Nothing set me off, but it is obvious referring to a price being cheap didn't exactly register the way it was intended..
Did you have an opportunity shop around and see what different shops are charging these days?
