RE: Electrical Problems
What year and how many miles. I'd say it's the sending unit in the tank. If you have an ohm meter, you can check the resistance as the rheostat in the tank is moved up and down. You should get avariable reading and gradual change. If you have a lot of miles on the car, like over 100k, would not hurt to change the pump/sending unit while you're in there. Not knowing the model and year, it may be that the pump and sending unit areone unitand will have to replace as a unit.

RE: Electrical Problems
Chances are the fuel tank is accessible by removing the rear seat, then the cover underneath it. You should see the top of the gas tank with the connectors for the sending unit (fuel pump & gage). Disconnect it and remove the fastener that holds in the unit (usually a big locking ring) and just pull the pump up. If you buy a new pump, it will probably be in the neighborhood of $200 (not including installation).
