sorry you all might use the cheaper hand held units the bigger units do connect to computer but does the same thing. Ok, I also tried a hand held scanner and the vehicle year is a 2003. On Both equipment nothing came back. On the computer machine it would usually show the brand name vehicle and vin number once it could read the vehicle so you know you have connected with the vehicle but it was like no vehicle was there. With the hand held you have to select vehicle but the notice came back no connectivity. because the hand held light up or power up which is generated by the power from the OBD 2 i know power is at that connection.

2003 is CAN compliant. If you are using a scanner which is not CAN compliant, it won't read. 2002 is the first year cars became standardized with CAN protocol. Same connector, different protocol.

My bad, 2003 is the first year for CAN:

WHAT IS CAN?

Controller Area Network (or CAN) is the newest automotive communication protocol. CAN Protocol is around 50 times the speed of the older protocols.

CAN was used in some cars starting in 2003, and is said to be the only protocol that will be used after 2007.

the CAN is not the problem the computer is updated via the net so it will move with the time however the hand held is good up to 2008.
