Default 2003 Elantra GT Hatchback Won't Turn Over

Ok, I think this is a weird one. My car wouldn't start yesterday morning. I hooked up jumpers, still nothing, not even a click. A weird thing: my alarm kept going off in the car. I had never heard it go off until yesterday. I finally got it to stop and I left the battery charger on it all day and came home to a fully charged battery. Tried it again, and nothing. I swapped out the relay and still nothing. Checked the ignition fuse and the starter fuse, and they look good. This morning, again, my son opened the door (unlocked) and the alarm went off. Then it shut off. Then it went off again. I finally disconnected the battery and came to work.

I was leaning towards starter but was hoping for relay, but now I am not so sure. Any thoughts or tips or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Does your vehicle have an" immobilizer" function,, (Anti-theft) ?
If so , does it use a coded key?

Honestly, I don't know if it has an "immobilizer" function. I bought this used but I don't think it has anything not-stock. Would this have been a factory option?

Thanks!

If it has an alarm system, factory installed , it should have a coded key.

Clean the cable terminals and battery terminals
If there is high resistance then the low voltage seen by the alarm would make it go nuts

After eliminating that, take a look at some videos on youtube about how to test a starter relay
A by-pass test would tell you if it is the starter or the control side of the circuit that needs to be troubleshot.
Note: you got to be careful not to mess with the wrong terminals on the starter relay
They would go back to the ECU. And you don't want to blow that computer (expensive)!!!

You all are Genius! I had disconnected the negative yesterday before work. Last night, I reconnected it and the alarm started blaring. I used the remote to turn it off and unlock the car. The car then started right up. That remote will probably never be used again, lol.

Thank you for saving me from installing a new starter because that was where I was heading!!!

Thanks for the update
We always suggest that one do tests to find the actual problem before deciding to throw parts at the car
Glad you got it sorted out.
Hopefully this will help someone else
